Luke Ellis was invited to speak at the Hidalgo County Bar Association in McAllen on July 2, 2014 in response to several large eminent domain/condemnation projects in the area including Electric Transmission Texas, LLC’s proposed North-Edinburg to Loma Alta transmission line project, the International Bridge Trade Corridor project, the expansion of SH 365, and the La Joya Relief Route project.  Luke discussed the status of these and other proposed infrastructure projects in the Rio Grande Valley. He discussed the power to condemn private land and how this impacts individual landowners.  Luke discussed the different valuation methodologies associated with various takings including remainder damage.  Luke concluded by explaining the basic condemnation process, which includes an administrative phase prior to the litigation phase.
